POS Billing

Everything you need to know about making a sale in RITE POS — fast, accurate, and GST-ready.

Overview

The POS (Point of Sale) screen is the heart of RITE POS. It is designed so that a trained cashier can complete a 3-item sale in under 10 seconds. The screen is divided into two halves: the top half for searching and browsing products, and the bottom half for the cart and checkout.

💡
Speed tip: Tap the POS tab — the search bar is automatically focused and the keyboard opens instantly. No extra taps needed.

Step 1: Search or Scan a Product

When you open the POS screen, the search bar is automatically focused. You have two ways to find a medicine:

A

Type to Search by Name

Start typing the medicine name — e.g., "Paracetamol" — and matching products appear instantly from your local database. No internet required.

B

Scan Barcode

Tap the QR/barcode icon on the right of the search bar to open the camera scanner. Point at the barcode on the medicine strip/box. The product is found and added to the cart instantly.

C

Filter by Category

Use the horizontal category filter chips (Antibiotic, Oral Care, Cold & Cough, etc.) to browse medicines within a category. Tap a chip to filter; tap again to clear.

Step 2: Add to Cart

Once you find the medicine in the product grid, tap the + ADD button on the product card. The product is added to the cart with a quantity of 1. The cart section expands from the bottom with a smooth animation.

If the product has package variants (e.g., Tablet ₹19.03, Strip ₹190.31), a variant selector appears. Tap the correct package type before adding to cart.

📦
Stock badge: Each product card shows the current stock count. If stock is low (below threshold), the badge turns amber. If out of stock, the product cannot be added to the cart.

Step 3: Manage the Cart

The cart shows all items in the current bill. For each item:

  • Tap + / − to change quantity, or tap the quantity number and type directly.
  • Swipe the item left to reveal the delete button. Tap Delete to remove. An undo option appears for 5 seconds.
  • Tap the edit icon to open per-item options (discount, custom price — manager permission may be required).

The cart footer shows in real time:

  • Subtotal — sum of all line totals before tax
  • Discount — if applied at cart level (tap to expand)
  • GST — automatically calculated as CGST + SGST or IGST based on your shop's state
  • Grand Total — in large DM Mono font, always visible

Step 4: Add Customer (Optional)

Tap the Add customer + chip above the cart footer. Search by name or phone number. Select the customer to:

  • Link the invoice to their purchase history
  • Allow credit (Khata) payment mode
  • Earn loyalty points on this purchase

Walk-in sales without a customer are fully supported — this step is optional.

Step 5: Process Payment

Tap the large Charge ₹{Total} button at the bottom. The payment sheet opens with four tabs:

Payment ModeHow it works
CashEnter the amount tendered. Change is calculated automatically and displayed in green. Tap quick-amount chips for convenience.
UPIA QR code is generated for the exact invoice amount. Tap "Payment received" after the customer pays.
CreditRequires a customer to be selected. The amount is added to the customer's Khata (credit ledger).
SplitEnter the cash amount and UPI amount separately. Both must add up to the invoice total.

Tap Confirm Payment to complete the sale. A large animated checkmark confirms the transaction.

Step 6: Print or Share Receipt

On the Sale Complete screen, you have 4 options:

  • Print Receipt — sends to connected Bluetooth thermal printer (58mm or 80mm)
  • WhatsApp — shares the PDF invoice directly via WhatsApp to the customer
  • View Invoice — opens the full A4 GST tax invoice for review
  • New Sale — clears the cart and starts the next transaction (auto-selected after 5 seconds)

Hold & Resume Cart

If a customer needs to step away or you need to serve another customer mid-transaction:

1

Tap the Pause icon

In the cart toolbar, tap the pause (⏸) icon. The current cart is saved as a hold.

2

Serve the next customer

A fresh empty cart opens. Serve the next customer normally.

3

Resume the held cart

Tap the hold queue icon (list icon). Select the held cart. It resumes exactly where you left it.

⚠️
Held carts are stored locally. They are not lost if you close the app, but they are cleared when you restart the app. Complete or discard held carts at the end of each shift.

Billing Offline

RITE POS works 100% offline for all billing operations. When offline:

  • All products, prices, and stock levels are available from the local database
  • Transactions are saved locally with a pending sync flag
  • The offline banner (amber, at the top of the screen) indicates you're in offline mode
  • When internet is restored, all pending transactions sync automatically
✓
Zero data loss guaranteed. Sales made offline are never lost. RITE POS stores them locally and syncs in the background when you're back online.
